Taiwan's International Investment Position (2024)
A country's international investment position is the balance sheet of the stock of residents' financial assets from and liabilities to the rest of the world.
At the end of 2024, Taiwan's total external assets increased by US$148.17 billion or 5.1% to US$3,034.87 billion compared to the end of 2023. This was mainly attributable to an increase in foreign securities held by residents and rising foreign securities prices.
Taiwan's total external liabilities was US$1,478.65 billion at the end of 2024, increasing by US$301.15 billion or 25.6% from the end of the previous year. This was mainly accounted for by increasing prices of local shares held by nonresident investors.
As of the end of 2024, Taiwan's international investment continued to record a net asset position of US$1,556.23 billion, decreasing by US$152.98 billion or 9.0% from the end of the previous year. Taiwan currently ranks as the 6th largest net creditor in the world.
