Announcement: issue a new NT$10 coin on January 11, 2011

Subject:
The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a new NT$10 coin on January 11, 2011. The new NT$10 coin will be circulated concurrently with the existing notes and coins.


Authority:
The authority is based on Article 13, 15 of The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Act, and Executive Yuan Directive: Yuan Tai Tsai No. 0990001991 dated January 20, 2010.
Description:
1. Design and Specifications:
(1) Face Value: NT$10
(2) Composition: Cupronickel
(3) Diameter: 26 millimeters
(4) Weight: 7.5 grams
(5) Edge: milled
(6) Design:
Obverse: The main design features a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the founding father of the Republic of China. The upper part of the circumscription is inscribed with Chinese characters “The 100th Year of the Republic of China.” (The Arabic numeral will change to indicate the year of mintage in subsequence years.)
Reverse: The latent images of two Chinese phrases, “the country is prosperous and at peace”(國泰)and “the people live in safety and happiness”(民安),overlap to form the shape of a Ruyi(如意). The face value 10 “Yuan” in Chinese is inscribed with two latent images“taiwan ” and “flow ” inside the Arabic numeral “0”. A tactile identification feature for blind people “●”can be found below.
2. The new NT$10 coin will be circulated in Taiwan, Kinmen and Matsu region starting January 11, 2011.
