Foreign Exchange Reserves as of the End of May 2019

The foreign exchange reserves of the Republic of China amounted to US$464.43 billion as of the end of May 2019, showing a decrease of US$394 million from the figure recorded at the end of the previous month.

The central bank stepped in to smooth out excess volatility in the foreign exchange market in May 2019, offsetting the returns from foreign exchange reserves management.

Note: The market value of securities investment and the NTD deposits held by foreign portfolio investors at the end of May 2019 reached US$352.3 billion, equivalent to 76% of foreign exchange reserves.
