Governor Perng says that this award is not for him, but for all the people in Taiwan.
Central Banking Publications was founded in 1990 and has operations in London, New York, and Hong Kong. Dedicated to policy and market analysis with an emphasis on central banking among others, it publishes the quarterly Central Banking Journal, in addition to books and web content. It also organizes seminars and conferences attended by central banks and financial institutions around the world.
The publisher presents this award to honor exceptional central bank leaders based mainly on the following criteria: (1) pioneering work, (2) reshaping the central banking landscape, and (3) outstanding public service.
Candidates for this award, along with other categories, are vetted, shortlisted, and then selected by an Awards Committee drawn from the publisher’s Editorial Advisory Board. This selection panel is formed by an anonymous make-up that changes every year. Currently, the Editorial Advisory Board consists of 25 members, including Nobel Laureates in Economics Robert Shiller and Robert Mundell, twelve renowned economists like Charles Goodhart and Kenneth Rogoff, and eleven former heads of central banks and monetary authorities.
Governor Perng now joins a prestigious lineup of past winners, including Paul Volcker, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve (awarded in 2014), Jacques de Larosière, former Governor of the Bank of France (2015), Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (2016), and Donald Kohn, former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve (2017).
Previously, Governor Perng was named Asia's Central Banker of the Year 2009 by The Banker, the world's premier banking and finance magazine founded in 1926 and owned by The Financial Times Group.
