Approved foreign exchange business in May 2015
In line with the policy of promoting the liberalization, internationalization, and development of the foreign exchange market, the Bank approved the following:
1. To amend “Regulations Governing Foreign Exchange Business of Banking Enterprises”.
2. Hua Nan Commercial Bank to engage in semi-discretionary individually managed money trust business denominated in foreign currencies.
3. Standard Chartered Bank Taipei Branch and Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company Taipei Branch to engage in RMB business.
4. Mizuho Bank Ltd. Taipei Branch, Deutsche Bank A.G. Taipei Branch and Bank SinoPac Company Limited to engage in foreign exchange business through fax instructions.
5. Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan) Ltd. to engage in approved internet foreign exchange banking business through mobile banking.
6. The establishment of Foreign Exchange Interbank Clearing System to process cross-border remittances in JPY.
7. Fubon Securities to engage in spot foreign exchange transactions between foreign currencies related to the securities business.
8. 3 branches of 3 banks to operate foreign exchange business. As of the end of May 2015, there were 3,407 authorized banks, including 3,368 domestic banks, 3 Mainland banks and 36 foreign banks.
