Monthly Overview of Offshore Banking Units (OBUs)

Number of OBUs and Total Assets As of June 30, 2014, there were 62 OBUs with total assets of US$183.428 billion, an decrease of US$0.257 billion or 0.1% from the previous month. The breakdown of the information in terms of domestic and foreign banks is shown in the table below:

Uses and Sources of Funds At the end of June, the primary uses of funds of all OBUs were loans, which amounted to 91.916 billion or 50.1% of total assets. The main sources of funds were vostro account– head office & branches, which amounted to 82.107 billion or 44.8% of total liabilities. The uses and sources of funds are summarized as follows:

Destination and Origin of Funds As of June 30, Asia was the main destination and origin of funds. The following table provides a geographical breakdown:

Volume of Export and Import Related Business The volume of export and import related banking business of all OBUs in June 2014 were US$36.049 billion and US$34.021 billion, respectively.
