The Issuance of the Republic of China Centenary

Commemorative Silver Coin

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China, the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue “The Republic of China Centenary Commemorative Silver Coin” on October 6, 2011. The Central Bank has appointed the Bank of Taiwan to deal with the sale of the commemorative silver coin, limited to one silver coin per purchaser at a time. This fine commemorative silver coin weighs an ounce, is legal tender and is engraved with a face value of NT$100. It costs NT$2,000 each.

The description of the commemorative silver coin is as follows:

Obverse: The main design features a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the founding father of the Republic of China. The upper part of the circumscription is inscribed with Chinese characters “In Commemoration of the Centenary of the Founding of the Republic of China.”

Reverse: The latent images of two Chinese phrases, “the country is prosperous and at peace”(國泰)and “the people live in safety and happiness”(民安),overlap to form the shape of a Ruyi(如意). The face value 100 is inscribed with two latent images“ 0927附圖-1  ”and“  0927附圖-2 ”inside the two Arabic numerals 0. “Ag999”, the Chinese character “Yuan”(圓), and “1 oz.” are engraved below the denomination. Turning the coin slightly to the left or right causes the two different sets of texts and figures to appear alternately.
