Central Bank of The Republic of China (Taiwan)
PRESS RELEASE Release Date: January 10, 2011

The Commemorative Coin Set for the Chinese
Zodiac Year of the Rabbit

The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a commemorative coin set for 2011, the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rabbit on January 13, 2011. Each set consists of one silver coin weighing an ounce as well as two proof coins in different denominations. The silver coin has a face value of NT$100, and the two proof coins NT$50 and NT$20, respectively. Each proof coin set costs NT$1,550.

The obverse face of the silver coin shows the image of rabbits. Because rabbits have a gentle disposition and are quick in their movements, they are auspicious symbols of peace, immortalized in Chinese legend as the “Jade Rabbit” (“玉兔”) visible on the face of the moon. The reverse side features an image of the “Chihkan Tower”(“赤崁樓”) in Tainan City, Taiwan, which was built in 1653 by the Dutch. For its three hundred fifty-eight years of history, it is officially recognized as a first-class national monument of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The Bank of Taiwan is appointed as the delegate of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to deal with the sale of 120,000 sets of coins. Each person may purchase only one set of coins at a time.
