The Commemorative Coin Set for the Chinese
Zodiac Year of the Ox
The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue the commemorative coin set for 2009, the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Ox on the 8th of January 2009. Each set consists of one silver coin weighing an ounce as well as two proof coins in different denominations. The silver coin has a face value of NT$100, the two proof coins NT$50 and NT$20, respectively. Each proof coin set costs NT$1350.
The obverse face of the silver coin shows the image of a water buffalo. Water buffalo was deployed extensively by farmers to cultivate the land in Taiwan throughout its agricultural phase of development. The reverse side features an image of the “Cihou Lighthouse”. It is classified as a Third Class National Monument.
The Bank of Taiwan is appointed as the delegate of the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to deal with the sale of 120,000 sets of coins. Each person may purchase only one set of coins at a time.
