THE ISSUANCE OF THE TAIWAN HIGH SPEED
RAIL COMMEMORATIVE SILVER COIN


The Central Bank of China will issue the Taiwan High Speed Rail Commemorative Silver Coin on December 7, 2006. A total of 25,000 pieces will be sold. The Bank of Taiwan is appointed as the agent of the Central Bank of China for the sale of the coins. Each coin costs NT$1,200. Each person may purchase one coin at a time.

The Taiwan High Speed Rail, which runs from Taipei to Kaohsiung covering a distance of approximately 345 kilometers and is connected to Taiwan’s local rail net-work systems as well as the Mass Rapid Transportation systems of the two metropolitan areas, will be formerly completed at the end of 2006. The Taiwan High Speed Rail connects major cities on Taiwan’s western corridor and will greater shorten the travel time between the north and south. An express train from Taipei takes only 90 minutes to reach Kaohsiung. To mark an important milestone in Taiwan’s transport history, the Central Bank of China will issue the Commemorative Silver Coin to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
