THE ISSUEANCE OF NT$20 COIN
The Central Bank of China will issue a new NT$20 coin on 9th July 2001. The new
coin will be circulated concurrently with the existing notes and coins.
The Central Bank of China designed the NT$20 coin for the purpose of paying
tribute to Taiwan's indigenous culture and history, and promoting harmony among
different ethnic groups in Taiwan.
Design and Specifications of NT$20
1.Metallic Composition: Ring: Aluminium-Bronze
Core: Cupro-Nickel
2.Design:
Obverse: The main design is a portrait of Mr. Mona Rudao, an Indigenous Tribal
Resistance hero, and the Wushe Memorial commemorating the Indigenous Tribal
Resistance during the Japanese occupation. The circumscription states: "The 90th
year of the Republic of China" in Chinese and a latent image "2001". (The
numeral indicates the year of mintage.)
Reverse: The main design shows traditional canoes used by the Yami tribe
dwelling mainly in Orchid Island off the South-eastern coast of Taiwan, with the
denomination of the coin above and the designation for blind people
"£»£»"beneath.

4.Diameter: 26.85 millimeters
5.Edge: milled
The new NT$20 coin will be circulated simultaneously in Taiwan, Kinmen and Matsu
region.
