THE ISSUANCE OF NT$2000 BANKNOTE

The Central Bank of China will issue a New Taiwan dollar banknote in the denomination of NT$2000 on 1st July 2002, to be circulated concurrently with the existing banknotes.

Two security features, the optical variable device and the metallic ink with the figure of 2000 embossed, have been incorporated in the NT$2000 banknote. The other security features of the NT$2000 banknote are the same as those found in the recently issued NT$1000, NT$500, NT$200 and NT$100 banknotes in the new series.

In order to introduce the new NT$2000 banknote and its security features, explanatory folders have been made available to financial institutions and the general public.

Design and Specifications:

1. Denomination: NT$2000

2. Dimensions: 165mm ¡Ñ 70mm

3. Material: Paper

4. Main Color: Purple

5. Design:

Obverse: A number of satellite dishes form the main design. The intaglio printing reads "The Republic of China", "The Central Bank of China", "Two Thousand Dollars" and "2000".

Reverse: The main design features Taiwan Salmon and Mt. Nanhu.

The new banknotes are printed by China Engraving & Printing Works. The engraving was made in 2001.

The new banknotes will be circulated simultaneously in Taiwan, Kinmen and Matsu region.
