PRESS RELEASE Release Date: February 25, 2005

The Central Bank of China, Taipei calls on foreign portfolio investors to invest funds already remitted into Taiwan in the equity market

Foreign portfolio investment is supposed to boost stock market activity. The Central Bank of China, Taipei has found, however, that a small number of foreign investors did not purchase stocks after their funds had been converted into NT dollars. In other instances, the size of NT dollar funds hoarded by some foreign investors appears to be rather excessive. These types of practice run contrary to the designated purpose filed by foreign portfolio investors when the funds were remitted into Taiwan. The Central Bank of China, Taipei calls on all foreign portfolio investors to observe that funds remitted into Taiwan should be deployed in a fashion that is consistent with the originally designated purpose of investing in Taiwan’s equity market.
