The 12th Issue of Proof Coin Set
The Central Bank of China will issue the 12th Proof Coin Set on the 6th of
January 2004. Each set consists of six proof coins in different denominations as
well as a silver medal weighing half an ounce. Each proof coin set costs
NT$1000.
The obverse of the medal shows a mother monkey cradling her offspring on her lap
as she sits on the branch of a peach tree. The reverse depicts the traditional
mythological figure of Fortune with an unfurled scroll announcing the arrival of
the New Year and bounty of good fortune. In the foreground, three children are
lighting a firecracker. The diamond shape contains the composite Chinese
character, "Chao-tsai-chin-bao," which stands as a welcoming invitation to
wealth and treasure.
The Bank of Taiwan and the Central Trust of China are appointed as the delegates
of the Central Bank of China to deal with the sale of 180,000 sets and 6,000
sets of proof coin sets. Each person may purchase one set at a time.
