Overview of Dishonored Checks Due to Insufficient Funds (April 2026)
I. Check Clearing Volume and Value
In April, the number of checks cleared totaled 3.88 million, representing a month-on-month decrease of 24.78%. The total value of checks cleared amounted to NT$1.01 trillion, a month-on-month decrease of 15.49%.
These developments primarily reflected a decrease of 2 business days and 1 month-end peak day1 compared with the previous month, leading to a decrease in both the volume and value of checks cleared (see attached table).
II. Dishonored Checks Due to Insufficient Funds
In April, the gross number of dishonored checks due to insufficient funds totaled 3,062, accounting for 0.08% of the total number of checks cleared. This represented an increase of 0.01 percentage points from the previous month.
The gross value of such dishonored checks amounted to NT$2.8 billion, accounting for 0.27% of the total value of checks cleared. This represented a decrease of 0.07 percentage points from the previous month.
These developments primarily reflected a decrease in dishonored checks issued by accounts with a high aggregated value of dishonored checks.2
III. Analysis by Account Type
In April, the share of dishonored checks attributed to corporate accounts in terms of volume increased by 0.23 percentage points from the previous month. The share of the value of dishonored checks attributed to corporate accounts increased by 15.38 percentage points month on month. The shares for personal accounts moved in the opposite direction by a similar magnitude.
