PRESS RELEASE                                             Release Date: January 6, 2026

The Issuance of the Chinese Zodiac Commemorative Coin Set for the Bing Wu Year of the Horse

The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a coin set for the Bing Wu Year of the Horse, the tenth set of the third series of the Chinese Zodiac Commemorative Coin Set.

1. Sales Channels and Duration

The Bank has delegated the Bank of Taiwan (BOT) to conduct the sale of the coin sets both online and through its branch network. The public can place orders online starting at 10:00 a.m. on January 6 through to midnight on January 12, 2026, or purchase the coin sets in person at any BOT branch from January 29, 2026 onwards.

2. Sales Quantity and Price

A total of 90,000 coin sets will be offered at NT$2,450 each. 50,000 of the coin sets will be sold online and the remainder through the BOT branches. Each purchaser can place only one order online for up to five coin sets, or purchase the coin sets at any BOT branch on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to two sets per purchaser at a time.

3. Design

Each set consists of one silver coin weighing an ounce with a face value of NT$100, as well as one copper-alloy coin with a face value of NT$10. The obverse of the silver coin shows a partially gold-plated image of a pair of galloping horses. The reverse features an image of Taipei 101’s New Year fireworks, a renowned spectacle that attracts visitors from around the world. The image on the obverse of the copper-alloy coin is an artful arrangement of geometric shapes that forms the silhouette of a horse, while the reverse of the copper-alloy coin is colorized to display a vibrant image of hydrangea flowers.

4. Online Orders

Each purchaser can place only one order on the BOT designated online ordering platform. If the total number of online orders exceeds the online sales quota, a computer-generated random lottery will be conducted. The result will be announced on the BOT’s website before 2:00 p.m. on January 13, 2026. Payments must be made no later than 3:30 p.m. on January 19, 2026. Once the payment is made successfully, the coin set(s) can be collected from the BOT branch designated when the order was placed, within a month starting from January 29, 2026.

For more information about the online ordering process, please visit the BOT’s website listed above. For other information about the coin sets, please visit our official website or Virtual Money Museum website.
