Commemorative Coins for the Inauguration of the Sixteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a commemorative gold coin and a commemorative silver coin to commemorate the inauguration of the Sixteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

1. Coin Design

As legal tender, the commemorative coins are engraved with face values. The gold coin contains one troy ounce of gold with a face value of NT$2,000, while the silver coin contains one troy ounce of silver with a face value of NT$200. Both coins are issued with a common design. The obverse bears the engraved portraits of the Sixteenth President Dr. Lai Ching-Te and Vice President Ms. Hsiao Bi-khim. The reverse features the insignia of the Office of the President.

2. Coin Pre-Order

(1) Quantity and Price

A maximum of 10,000 commemorative gold coins will be offered at NT$72,000 each, and a maximum of 50,000 silver coins will be offered at NT$1,800 each. All the commemorative coins are available for pre-order only; each purchaser can place only one order for up to one gold coin and/or five silver coins.

(2) Channels and Durations

The Bank has delegated the Bank of Taiwan (BOT) to conduct the pre-order sale of the commemorative coins both online and through its branch network. The public can pre-order on the BOT designated online ordering platform from 10:00 a.m. today till 23:59:59 p.m. on March 27, or pre-order in person at any BOT branch during the period.

If the total number of orders exceeds the maximum pre-order quantity, a computer-generated random drawing will be conducted. The result will be announced on the BOT’s website before 6:00 p.m. on March 28. Payments must be made no later than 3:30 p.m. on April 9. Once the payment is made successfully, the coin(s) can be collected from the BOT branch designated when the order was placed, within a month starting from May 20.
