PRESS RELEASE                                           Release Date: January 3, 2024

The Issuance of the Chinese Zodiac Commemorative Coin Set for the Jia Chen Year of the Dragon

The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a coin set for the Jia Chen Year of the Dragon, the eighth set of the third series of the Chinese Zodiac Commemorative Coin Set.

1. Sale Channels and Durations

The Bank has delegated the Bank of Taiwan (BOT) to conduct the sale of the coin sets both online and through its branch network. The public can place orders online starting at 10:00 a.m. on January 8 through to midnight on January 13, 2024, or earlier if the online quota is sold out before the deadline. The public can also purchase the coin sets in person at any BOT branch from January 22, 2024 onwards.

2. Sale Quantity and Price

A total of 90,000 coin sets will be offered at NT$1,900 each. Half of the coin sets will be sold online and the remainder through the BOT branches, both on a first-come, first-served basis. Each purchaser can place only one order online for up to ten coin sets, or purchase in person at any BOT branch for up to two coin sets at a time.

3. Design

Each set consists of one silver coin weighing an ounce with a face value of NT$100, as well as one copper-alloy coin with a face value of NT$10. The obverse of the silver coin shows the gold-plated image of a dragon, and the reverse features an image of the Kaohsiung Neimen Song Jiang Battle Array, which is one of Taiwan’s most distinctive cultural tourism events. The image on the obverse of the copper-alloy coin is a dragon playing with a pearl, while the image of the rose on the reverse is pad printed in color.

4. Online Orders

Each purchaser can place only one order on the BOT designated online ordering platform. Payments must be made within three days after ordering, otherwise the purchase will be canceled and the quota released accordingly. When the online ordering platform is still available for ordering, a purchaser who has not made payment before the deadline can place a new order. If the payment is received successfully, the coin set(s) can be collected from the BOT branch designated when the order was placed from January 22, 2024.

For more information about the online ordering process, please visit the BOT’s website listed above. For other information about the coin sets, please visit our official website or Virtual Money Museum website.
