Approved foreign exchange business in September 2022
In line with the policy of promoting the liberalization, internationalization, and development of the foreign exchange market, the Bank approved the following:
1. China Construction Bank Taipei Branch to issue foreign currency denominated negotiable certificates of deposit.
2. Taiwan Business Bank to accept customer’s application to open digital foreign currency deposit accounts over the Internet.
3. Taiwan Cooperative Bank to engage in foreign securities trading business provided such trading is neither an investment of proprietary funds nor done to meet hedging purposes.
4. Barclays Securities Taiwan to commence trading foreign bonds as an agent.
5. AllianceBernstein Investments Taiwan Limited to handle public offers of funds denominated in foreign currencies (including Renminbi).
6. Two branches of two banks to operate the foreign exchange business. As of the end of September 2022, there were 3,459 authorized banks, including 3,420 domestic banks, 3 Mainland banks, and 36 foreign banks.
