Commemorative Coins for the Inauguration of the Fifteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan)

The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue a commemorative gold coin and a commemorative silver coin to commemorate the inauguration of the Fifteenth President and Vice President of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

1. Sales Channel

The Bank has delegated the Bank of Taiwan (BOT) to conduct the sale of the commemorative coins both online and through its branch network. The public can place orders online from 10:00 a.m. on May 7, or purchase the commemorative coins in person at any BOT branch on a first-come, first-served basis from May 20, 2020 onwards.

2. Quantity and Price

A total of 10,000 commemorative gold coins will be offered at NT$56,000 each, and a total of 50,000 silver coins will be offered at NT$1,600 each. Out of these totals, 7,000 gold coins and 35,000 silver coins will be available online. The remainder will be sold through the BOT branches. To ensure fair distribution, each purchase is limited to one gold coin and/or one silver coin at a time.

3. Coin Design

As legal tender, the commemorative coins are engraved with face values. The gold coin contains one troy ounce of gold with a face value of NT$2,000, while the silver coin contains one troy ounce of silver with a face value of NT$200. Both coins are issued with a common design. The obverse bears the engraved portraits of the Fifteenth President Ms. Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Mr. Lai Ching-Te. The reverse features the insignia of the Office of the President.

4. Online Orders

A BOT designated online ordering platform at https://coinset.bot.com.tw will be available from 10:00 a.m. on May 7 till 12:00 p.m. on May 12. If the total number of online orders exceeds the online sales quota, a computer-generated random drawing will be conducted. The result will be announced on the BOT’s website at 5:00 p.m. on May 12. Payments must be made no later than 3:30 p.m. on May 15. Once the payment is made successfully, the coin(s) can be collected from the BOT branch, designated when the order is placed, within a month starting from May 20.
