Subject
The Central Bank of China will issue the Commemorative Silver Coin for the Third National Expressway-Full Completion of Construction and official opening of the connection on January 9, 2004. The Bank of Taiwan is appointed as the delegate of the Central Bank of China to deal with the sale of the coins. The Silver Coin is legal tender and has a face value of fifty New Taiwan dollars. Each coin costs NT$700.

The authority is based on the Regulations Governing Issuance of Gold and Silver Coins and Commemorative Notes and Coins.

Purpose:
To celebrate the full completion of construction of the Third National Expressway and its official opening and inauguration, the Central Bank of China will issue the Commemorative Silver Coin.

Design:
Obverse: |
The main design is a colored map of Taiwan on which the red line from north to south represents the new Third National Expressway. The upper part of the coin is inscribed with Chinese characters that mean "the 93rd Year of the Republic of China," and along the lower edge, "In Commemoration of the Inauguration of the National Expressway Number Three." |
Reverse: |
A picture of Gao-Ping Stream Bridge on the Third National Expressway forms the main design. The upper right-hand part of the coin is inscribed with "2004." The face value and purity of the silver coin are shown on the upper left-hand part of the coin.
