The Data: Coverage, Periodicity, and Timeliness

Coverage characteristics

Data are compiled from documents collected by the R.O.C. Customs Bureaus. Data are divided into total exports (at f.o.b.values) and total imports (c.i.f.). Imports are listed by country of origin, and domestic exports by country of destination. Imports and Exports are classified according to commodity using HS codes. All data are denominated in New Taiwan Dollars and U.S. Dollars. All data are unadjusted for seasonality .

Periodicity Monthly
Timeliness The official release is approximately 7 days after the end of the reference month.

Access by the Public

Advance dissemination of release calendar

Currently the monthly press release date is fixed on approximately 7th in each month.

Simultaneous release to all interested parties

At the time of release, the press release is distributed to the media and faxed to the government agencies and other interested parties. The public can access the press release on the Internet http://www.mof.gov.tw.

confidentiality of individual responses

Foreign trade statistics compiled and published by the Statistical Department of the Directorate General of Customs of the Ministry of Finance are governed by the Statistics Act.

There is no internal government access to the data before the release to the public.

There is no ministerial commentary attached to the release of the data.

Provision of information about revision and advance notice of major changes in methodology

Information about revision is provided in the explanatory marks "R" in the monthly publication "Monthly Statistics of Exports and Imports." Any change in data collection procedures that affect data comparability is indicated in explanatory notes.

Methodology and sources used are provided in the introductory notes in the monthly publication.
